Miriams special person

A time when a person made a difference in my life was when my mother supported me during and after my pregnancy.  My mom showed me how to take care of my baby and she also helped me tremendously by taking care of him while i was in school.  With her help I graduated from middle school and I am looking forward to graduating high school.  Something that I learned from my mom is that sometimes u need to be compassionate with others and help people out without expecting anything in return.

Jennifer's significant person

My family group teacher supported me when my mother came to parent teacher conference. I failed all my classes; didn't pass not one. But my Family Group teacher Hector supported me by believing in me and telling my mom that i could do it and that Im smart.

Hector made me feel good and now i have a 75 to 80 average. He made me build my confidence up. Also every time he sees me not in class he tells me what class i have and to make sure i get my butt there. I believe i can do anything now because i never thought i would be able to fix my average. I make sure Im in school everyday and i tell people you can do anything. Don't let no one stop you or anyone get in your way.

Thanx  to my Family Group teachers Hector & Laura for believing in me...

Journal prompts for Monday May 18, 2009

Tell us about a time when a person or a group of people made a difference in your life, i.e., made you feel supported, significant, special?
-When my family came to my daughters baby shower.

    What did they do?
- They all came with things for my daughter. My whole family and friends showed me a lot of support.

How did you benefit from their help or support?
- I didn't have to get a lot of stuff for my daughter because I got most of it in the baby shower so it saved me a lot of money.

What could yo do to " pass it forward" and do the same for someone?
- If someone I know needs help with their child or needs things to support themselves. I would do everything and anything I can do to help them get what they need and make sure they are good and taken cared of.

Rene's person who made a difference

there was once this person i met in jail. i only knew him for a few days but he eventually rubbed off on me and got me going on the right path. he would always tell me these stories about him and his childhood. he had nearly spent his whole life behind bars. he was 50 and had been in jail for over 25 years. he told me to go home and take care of my family and to stop doing bad. He said now that he is in jail he can't he enjoy anything. he changed my point of view on everything.i came home and started looking at everything differently.i never take nothing for granted.

Dorrie-Ann's person who made a difference

my last birthday, my mother was going through a bit of a stress. she spend a  lot of money on my grandmother's funeral, and she wasn't going to get a check until a week after my birthday. so a group of people in my family got together and threw me a bbq. for my birthday. they brought me many gifts, and rented me a limo for six hours. i felt real good about my self. it made me realize that family is one of the most important thing you could have. in the future i could help someone, who is either in my family or is just a friend, out when in need.

Journal writing May 19, 2009

Hi everyone out there in cyberland!
Laura and Hector's family group is in the computer lab writing in our journals/blogs.  We are reflecting and  sharing with everyone about a time when someone made a difference in someone's life.

Here is what Hector said
"My phsy ed teachers Mr. Ochs and Mr. Gubell told me that I was athletic and that I would be a good teacher.   They showed me they cared and gave me other tips when I showed that I did my best and wanted to learn.  I remained positive and interested in other classes and bought that positive mind set into other areas of my life.  I believe that by teaching young people to believe in themselves so they could stay or become positve and dot he best they could."
